Sanju Samson proposed as potential CSK captain for IPL 2027

Former India opener Sadagoppan Ramesh has urged the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to consider Sanju Samson as the team's next captain ahead of the IPL 2027 season. The call for leadership change follows a period where CSK finished eighth in the 2026 season and failed to qualify for the playoffs for three consecutive years.

Ramesh highlighted Samson's leadership credentials, noting his 50 percent success rate across 66 IPL matches as captain, including leading the Rajasthan Royals to a final and a playoff appearance. While acknowledging that a captaincy change alone is not a guaranteed solution for the franchise, Ramesh described Samson as a ‘fantastic team player’ who should be seriously considered if the organization decides to move on from Ruturaj Gaikwad.
