SANKO University commemorates August 30 Victory Day

SANKO University held a ceremony to commemorate August 30 Victory Day. During the event, Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Didem Karayakupoğlu, Vice Chair of the Common Courses Department, delivered a presentation titled ‘Women Heroes of Victory.’

Karayakupoğlu emphasized that the victory on August 30, 1922, was achieved through the collective struggle and sacrifices of the entire nation, not just soldiers on the front lines. She detailed the historical progression of the Turkish War of Independence, from May 19, 1919, through the Great Offensive to the decisive Battle of the Commander-in-Chief.

The presentation specifically highlighted the vital roles played by women during the struggle, including figures such as Tayyar Rahmiye, Gördesli Makbule, Şerife Bacı, Nezahat Onbaşı, and Halide Edib. Karayakupoğlu noted that women contributed by transporting ammunition, fighting on the front lines, and conducting intelligence activities. The ceremony was attended by university leadership, academic staff, and students.
