Sanna Marin and Antti Lindtman near Russian drone strike

Former Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin and Social Democratic Party Chairman Antti Lindtman narrowly avoided a Russian drone attack near the Ukrainian-Polish border. The politicians were traveling by train from Kyiv after attending the Yalta European Strategy (YES) conference when they passed through the Jahodyn station on Sunday.

Approximately one hour after their train departed the station, a Russian drone struck a locomotive at the same location. The station is situated just a few kilometers from the Polish border. While the strike caused no casualties, Ukrainian railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia suggested that the intended target may have been the train carrying diplomats, noting that schedules were being adjusted in real-time due to the continuous threat of Russian strikes.

Other high-profile figures, including former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt, had also passed through the station on separate trains shortly before the incident. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has since convened a crisis meeting, warning of potential Russian escalations that could affect Polish territory.
