Sannio region promotes enotourism through local wine and culture

The Sannio region in Campania is positioning itself as a competitive destination for enotourism, following a trend in Italy where the sector's turnover has increased by approximately one billion euros over the last nine years. During a wine talk organized by the national association ‘Città del Vino’ in Castelvenere, experts emphasized that success depends on integrating wine production with landscape, culture, and gastronomy rather than relying on fragmented approaches.

The region's viticultural strength is centered on indigenous varieties, specifically the powerful Aglianico del Taburno DOCG and the fresh Falanghina del Sannio DOP. The landscape, characterized by the Taburno massif and the Calore river valley, offers diverse soil types including clay, limestone, and volcanic tuff. Many local wineries, located in areas such as Sant’Agata de’ Goti and Montesarchio, are increasingly investing in tasting rooms and guided tours to promote the territory's identity through its unique wine and local food products.
