Sanok Mayor Tomasz Matuszewski suspended amid corruption probe

The prosecutor in Rzeszów has suspended Tomasz Matuszewski from his duties as the mayor of Sanok pending the conclusion of an investigation. The decision follows a notification filed by city councilor Grzegorz Nogaj with the Regional Prosecutor's Office and the Central Anticorruption Bureau (CBA).

The investigation concerns allegations of active bribery. According to Nogaj, during a conversation approximately two years ago, the mayor allegedly offered him a position in a municipal company in exchange for support within the City Council. Matuszewski has firmly denied all accusations, characterizing the situation as a “politically inspired game” orchestrated by opponents ahead of a planned referendum.

Matuszewski announced his intention to appeal the prosecutor's decision in court. During his suspension, the duties of the mayor will be assumed by the first deputy, Teresa Kudroń.
