Sanremo: 13-year-old sets homeless man on fire during attempted robbery
A 13-year-old boy is suspected of setting a 60-year-old homeless man on fire in the Porto Vecchio area of Sanremo during the night of October 7-8. According to investigations, the teenager filled a bottle with gasoline from a local station, poured it over the sleeping man, and ignited it with a match in an attempt to steal the victim's backpack.
The victim, a French national, was rescued by Coast Guard personnel who responded to his cries for help. He was transported to Borea Hospital with second and third-degree burns to his legs and was discharged after two days.
Carabinieri identified the suspect through surveillance footage from the Port Authority and municipal cameras. The teenager, who resides in a local foster home, has been located. Due to his age, he is not criminally liable for the attempted homicide, and the case has been referred to the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office in Genoa for further investigation into the social services and psychological circumstances surrounding the incident.
