Sanremo 2027: Stefano De Martino eyes Checco Zalone for competition

Preparations for the 2027 Sanremo Music Festival are underway, with artistic director Stefano De Martino considering significant changes to the lineup and format. Reports suggest De Martino is interested in having comedian Checco Zalone participate as a competing artist rather than just a special guest, aiming to make a strong impact in his debut as director.

The proposed structure for the festival includes a reduced roster of 24 main competitors: 23 selected by De Martino and one from the 'Sanremo Giovani' category. Additionally, plans are being discussed for a dedicated Eurovision night to select Italy’s representative, moving away from the tradition where the festival winner automatically receives the role.

Veteran singer Orietta Berti, who has participated in the festival twelve times, addressed her potential involvement. While reflecting on her long career and recent professional resurgence, she stated she would not compete unless she had a 'bomb song' in hand.
