Stefano De Martino trims Sanremo Giovani to a single winner for 2027 Festival

Rai has published the new Sanremo Giovani regulations on 7 August 2026. Under artistic director Stefano De Martino, the competition will now select only one winner, who will join the Campioni lineup of the Sanremo Festival 2027 – the first time a sole emerging act will compete with the established “Big” artists at the Ariston stage in February 2027.

The selection process begins with the Musical Commission reviewing all submissions and short‑listing 60 artists for live auditions. After the first round, 15 Giovani contestants and 15 participants from the parallel Area Sanremo merge into a pool of 30. Two weekend live‑selection events in Sanremo, overseen by De Martino, will narrow the field to six finalists (three from each track). The finalists will each appear on a prime‑time Rai 1 programme for promotional exposure before the final on 18 December 2026 at the Casino di Sanremo, where the sole winner is chosen and granted a direct slot among the 2027 Campioni.

The new format also introduces a dedicated Eurovision night and a European tour for the winner. In the 2026 edition, participant Eddie Brock placed 30th and described the experience as “stressful” and “cutthroat”, highlighting the heightened competitiveness of the revamped contest.
