Sanremo Festival 2027 introduces new rules and voting methods
The official regulations for the 77th Sanremo Music Festival, scheduled for February 16–20, 2027, have been released. Under the artistic direction of Stefano De Martino, the event will feature 24 artists in a single category.
Key changes include the introduction of online voting via RaiPlay, which will complement traditional televoting to engage younger audiences. The festival will also implement a strict ban on using artificial intelligence to write songs, requiring all entries to be products of human creativity.
The competition structure is being redesigned with two specialized event nights: a dedicated Cover night and a new ‘Performance Night’ on Friday, February 19. The winner of the Performance Night will earn the right to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest, a role no longer automatically granted to the overall Sanremo winner. The festival will also feature a new international jury of experts to assist in evaluating these performances.
