Sanremo Music Festival: Cultural impact and 2027 preparations

The Sanremo Music Festival remains a central pillar of Italian culture and the national music economy. Since its inception in 1951, the event has shaped the country's popular music, influencing radio, streaming, and record sales. As a major televised event broadcast by the public broadcaster RAI, it serves as a significant cultural ritual with massive viewership, reaching 10 million spectators during its 2023 finale.

Preparations for the 77th edition of the festival, scheduled for February 2027, have officially begun. Stefano De Martino, serving as both host and artistic director, has commenced the song selection process. De Martino is currently in Los Angeles working alongside Fabrizio Ferraguzzo to evaluate candidate tracks in recording studios, aiming to define the musical identity of the upcoming edition.
