China EV charging infrastructure exceeds 23 million units

China's electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure continues to expand significantly, reaching over 23 million charging connectors by late July 2026. According to data from the National Energy Administration, this represents a 41.9% year-on-year increase.

Growth is primarily driven by private charging installations, which account for approximately 18.5 million units, a 48.8% increase. In contrast, the growth of public charging facilities has slowed, rising by 21.3% to approximately 5.1 million units. Despite the deceleration in public infrastructure expansion, the International Energy Agency (IEA) notes that global EV demand remains strong, with China maintaining its position as the world's largest manufacturing hub and exporter.

Looking ahead, China aims to expand its charging capacity to over 40 million units by 2030 to support an estimated 110 million electric vehicles.
