Sant Antoni keeps s’Arenal beach closed due to contamination

The s’Arenal beach in Sant Antoni remains closed to swimmers due to ongoing water contamination. Although recent analyses indicate an improvement in detected levels, the local government has maintained a red flag as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety.

Authorities have been unable to identify the specific source of the pollution. Investigations into the municipal sanitation network and pumping stations have confirmed they are functioning normally, suggesting the issue is not related to the municipal sewage system. The beach was originally closed on September 20 following a sewage leak caused by a faulty pump, which was subsequently repaired and treated with hyperchlorination. New test results are expected over the weekend to determine if the water meets safety parameters.
