Sant Cugat and Lleida close structures over safety concerns
The Sant Cugat town council has erected a perimeter fence around the chimney of the former Jesuit pottery at the Centre Borja. The closure is preventive while technical studies—including interior inspection, photogrammetric surveying and structural monitoring—are carried out to assess the chimney’s stability. The chimney, the sole remaining element of the historic pottery, is listed in the Sant Cugat heritage catalogue.
In Lleida, Carmelites street has remained blocked for several months after parts of a building façade began to detach, creating a safety hazard. The city’s urban discipline department has ordered the property owner to carry out repairs and is preparing to impose a coercive fine for non‑compliance. Until the façade is fixed, the street will stay closed and debris continues to accumulate.
