Sant Cugat mayor says Catalan government blocked all 25 budget amendments

Mayor Josep Maria Vallès of Sant Cugat criticised the Catalan Generalitat after the July‑approved regional budget rejected every one of the 25 amendments the city and the Junts party had submitted. Vallès called the government’s handling “enredar” (to tangle) and said the budget was adopted “late and badly”, leaving only four months for execution. The rejected proposals covered a new courthouse building, undergrounding of railway tracks, a second railway tunnel to Barcelona, a new roundabout at Can Barata, the La Mirada school, protected housing at Can Camps, a 24‑hour pediatric emergency unit, a special‑education school, and other local infrastructure.

Junts deputy Joan Canadell echoed the complaint, noting that more than 1,300 amendments were presented across Catalonia’s budget and none were approved in the Vallès Occidental area. He accused the Generalitat of “political shielding” and of tailoring approvals to its own proposals. The mayor also said earlier meetings with ministries, including Justice Minister Ramon Espadaler, acknowledged the projects as necessary but stalled them for lack of funding.
