Sant Cugat names Octavi Galceran honorary son posthumously

The Sant Cugat municipal council has unanimously approved the posthumous appointment of Octavi Galceran as an honorary son of the city. The distinction recognizes his significant contributions to preserving the local historical memory through photography, cinema, and painting.

Galceran, who passed away in August 2025 at the age of 101, arrived in Sant Cugat in 1930. Over nine decades, his work documented the municipality's transformation from a rural area of vineyards and farmhouses into a modern city. His photographic and watercolor records of local 'masies' (farmhouses) from the 1950s remain essential for understanding architectural heritage that has since disappeared.

In addition to his visual arts, Galceran was a filmmaker whose 8mm films captured daily life and local festivals during the 1960s and 1970s. He was also a key figure in local community life, having co-founded the Club Muntanyenc Sant Cugat in 1944.
