Sant Feliu de Guíxols approves monastery and pavilion projects

The municipal council has approved the budget and bidding processes for the rehabilitation of the local monastery and the construction of a new multipurpose pavilion in Sant Feliu de Guíxols. The projects are expected to take 18 months to complete, with an estimated operational date in mid-2028.

The new multipurpose pavilion, located next to the Carles Nadal pavilion, has a budget of 8.2 million euros and is intended for cultural, recreational, and sporting activities. Additionally, 9.1 million euros have been allocated for the first phase of the monastery's renovation, which includes the interior and roofing. This project aims to transform the site into a ‘Monastery of the Arts,’ featuring the Thyssen Museum as a primary attraction.

The decisions met with varying political responses. Junts per Catalunya opposed the spending, suggesting funds be redirected to urban maintenance or parking. Esquerra Republicana abstained, noting unresolved concerns in their allegations, while MESCat voted in favor but warned that the city might have to cover costs if neighborhood plan funding is not secured.
