Sant Feliu de Guíxols Beach Drowning Claims 74-Year-Old Spanish Woman
A 74‑year‑old Spanish woman died on Sunday afternoon while swimming near the Cala del Maset area of Sant Pol beach in the municipality of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Baix Empordà, Girona. At 14:10 the emergency number 112 received a call reporting a swimmer in distress; a maritime rescue vessel and three land teams from the Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) responded, but resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.
The incident is the 16th fatality on Catalan beaches since the official bathing campaign began on 15 June. Catalonia's Protecció Civil reiterated safety recommendations, urging the public to watch children closely, respect flag signals, avoid swimming when fatigued, and call emergency services immediately if someone is in trouble.
