Sant Joan d'Alacant delays 35.5 million euro waste contract
In Sant Joan d'Alacant, the local People's Party (PP) government has delayed the adjudication of a major waste collection and street cleaning contract for six months. The contract, valued at 35.5 million euros over a ten-year period, saw five competing companies submit bids, including FCC Medio Ambiente and Prezero.
Since the contracting board met in March to review the offers, the file has remained inactive. Consequently, the municipality continues to operate under an expired 2010 contract through extensions. Opposition groups, specifically the PSOE, have criticized this paralysis, noting that the delay occurs alongside population growth in new neighborhoods like Nou Nazareth and L'Alqueria, which has strained existing services.
