Sant Joan Hospital implements 3D technology for eye surgery

The Hospital Universitario Sant Joan d’Alacant has implemented advanced 3D digital microscope technology, specifically the Artevo 850, to enhance precision and safety in ophthalmic surgeries.

Unlike conventional microscopes that require surgeons to look through eyepieces, this system allows medical teams to view high-definition, three-dimensional images on large-format screens. This provides better depth perception and clearer visualization of anatomical structures, which is critical for delicate procedures such as cataract surgery, glaucoma treatment, corneal transplants, retinal detachment repair, and strabismus correction.

Encarnación Mengual, Head of Ophthalmology at the hospital, noted that the technology fundamentally changes how surgeons interact with procedures. Additional benefits include reduced light intensity on the patient's eye during surgery, improving comfort and safety during both the operation and the postoperative period.
