Sant Josep launches urban planning strategy to manage 10 million square meters
The Sant Josep City Council has launched a new urban strategy titled ‘Sant Josep, Orden y Planificación’ to manage land use and facilitate the approval of a new General Urban Development Plan (PGOU). The initiative follows an extensive territorial audit of approximately 350 sectors, covering 10.4 million square meters of land.
From this audit, the council identified 244 specific areas requiring direct management due to structural deficiencies or unique urbanistic situations. These areas have been categorized into six management groups based on their status, ranging from consolidated zones to those requiring detailed planning or urban transformation.
Mayor Vicent Roig stated that the goal is to provide legal certainty, resolve long-standing structural issues, and organize urbanizations through ‘active urbanism.’ To implement this, the municipality has established a temporary technical unit of new officials to work alongside existing services through 2026–2029.
