Santa Ana church thieves steal $50,000 bronze Jesus statue
Two suspects allegedly stole a $50,000 bronze statue of Jesus from Christ Our Savior Catholic Church in Santa Ana, California. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on August 30.
According to the Santa Ana Police Department, the thieves used an electric cutting tool to detach the statue from its base. The suspects then dragged the heavy object across the church property toward Segerstrom High School, where they reportedly loaded it into a waiting getaway vehicle. In the process, the thieves left the feet of the statue attached to its base at the scene.
This event follows a previous theft at the same location in April, where suspects allegedly stole portions of another bronze statue. Local authorities note that such thefts are part of a broader trend of metal theft in Orange County, often driven by the resale value of scrap bronze or related to substance addiction.
