Santa Ana police arrest two activists for allegedly stalking federal agents
The Santa Ana Police Department has arrested two immigrant-rights activists, Madison Crabill, 25, and Adilene Tonoco, 33, on suspicion of stalking, conspiracy, and resisting or obstructing officers. The arrests follow allegations from off-duty Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents that the women followed them across multiple jurisdictions, including from La Habra into Santa Ana.
According to police, the agents reported that the activists had previously encountered them during federal operations and allegedly continued to follow them despite attempts to disengage. The agents further alleged that their vehicle was obstructed in an alley and that traffic violations occurred during the pursuit.
Santa Ana Police Chief Robert Rodriguez issued a statement defending the arrests, asserting they were based on alleged criminal conduct rather than immigration enforcement. He emphasized that the department was not assisting with federal immigration operations.
In response to the arrests, supporters and some city council members gathered at the Santa Ana City Jail to call for the women's release. Advocates have accused the department of siding with federal authorities, while family members expressed pride in the activists for standing up for constitutional rights.
