Santa Anita: Man detained for suspected double homicide of wife and son
A 43-year-old man, identified as Giuseppe Carlos Leonardi Barba, has been detained following a suspected double homicide in the Santa Anita district of Peru. The incident occurred at night after the family had returned from a celebration for the feast of Santa Rosa de Lima.
Reports indicate the violence was triggered by a family argument. Leonardi Barba allegedly shot his 22-year-old son, Giuseppe Augusto Leonardi Gutiérrez, inside their home. Although the young man was rushed to the Hipólito Unanue National Hospital, medical staff confirmed he had passed away. Following the initial attack, the suspect's wife, 49-year-old Karina Gutiérrez Hidalgo, attempted to flee the residence while calling for help from neighbors. The man reportedly pursued her and shot her twice, causing her to die at the scene.
A 12-year-old daughter witnessed the events but managed to escape before being targeted. After the killings, the suspect remained inside the home. Police from the National Police of Peru (PNP) and local security services arrived at the scene and forced entry into the residence. Officers found the man on the first floor of the house, wearing bloodstained clothing and in possession of the firearm used in the attack. He was taken into custody and transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (Depincri) of Ate-Santa Anita.
