Santa Barbara County health department hosts back-to-school health fairs; hospice welcomes new board member
The Santa Barbara County Health Department will hold its fourth annual Back-to‑School Health Fairs from August 4 to August 6, 2026 in Santa Maria, Lompoc and Santa Barbara. The free events will offer sports physicals, required school vaccinations, backpacks, school supplies and hygiene kits to students and families. Director Mouhanad Hammami said the fairs are meant to ensure children start the school year healthy and prepared.
Hospice of Santa Barbara announced the appointment of Mindy Denson to its Board of Directors. Denson brings more than three decades of experience in substance‑abuse counseling and retail management, having worked for agencies such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Saks Fifth Avenue. She has volunteered with the hospice since 2005, helping organize fundraising events and the Heroes of Hospice auction. CEO David Selberg praised her rare combination of professional expertise and community commitment.
