Santa Barbara Museum of Art launches major Impressionist exhibition
The Santa Barbara Museum of Art (SBMA) is pursuing an ambitious strategy to increase its national visibility and accessibility through major exhibitions. Under the leadership of Eichholz Foundation director Amada Cruz and board chairman Michael Linn, the museum is hosting ‘The Impressionist Revolution: Monet to Matisse’ exhibition.
Cruz, who previously held leadership roles at the Guggenheim and the Seattle Art Museum, aims to elevate the institution's profile while making it less ‘precious’ for a broader audience. The museum's curatorial efforts, led by chief curator James Glisson, include a mix of 19th-century masters and contemporary artists such as Elliot Hundley and Joan Tanner.
