Santa Barbara Old Spanish Days Fiesta sees rise in arrests

The annual Old Spanish Days Fiesta in Santa Barbara has concluded, bringing both economic interest and a notable increase in law enforcement activity. The Santa Barbara Police Department reported 199 arrests and 94 bookings during the five-day celebration, an increase from the 149 arrests and 59 bookings recorded during the previous year. Police responded to 1,557 calls for service and issued 1,282 parking citations.

While the festivities drew large crowds, local discussions have emerged regarding the long-term revitalization of downtown Santa Barbara. Residents and business owners suggest that increasing the frequency of pop-up events, live music, street theater, and cultural fairs could help maintain the area's vibrancy outside of major festival periods.
