Santa Bárbara d’Oeste implements re-education program for perpetrators of violence against women
The “Tempo de Superação” program in Santa Bárbara d’Oeste, Brazil, is working to re-educate men involved in cases of violence against women. Developed through a partnership between the public sector and a civil society organization, the initiative focuses on accountability and the prevention of future violence.
Participants, who may be referred by the judiciary as part of conditional sentence suspensions or join voluntarily, undergo 16 group reflection meetings and two individual sessions. Led by psychologists and social workers, the sessions address topics such as machismo, gender relations, and various forms of violence.
Since its implementation in 2023, the program has seen steady growth. To date, 76 men have participated, with 22 currently active in the program.
