Santa Brígida father assists in emergency home birth via phone guidance

A father in Santa Brígida, Gran Canaria, successfully assisted in a home birth by following emergency instructions over the phone. The incident occurred in a remote area with difficult access, making it impossible for medical teams to arrive before the imminent birth.

A coordinator from the Servicio de Urgencias Canario (SUC) provided real-time guidance to the parents and the mother's mother. During the delivery, a critical complication arose when the father reported that the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby's neck. Following the coordinator's specific instructions, the father managed to remove the cord, allowing the birth to proceed successfully.

While the family managed the delivery, emergency services dispatched both basic and advanced life support ambulances, along with medical staff from the Santa Brígida Health Center and local police. Both the mother and the newborn were reported to be in good health following the procedure.
