Santa Catarina advances consumer protection and fraud prevention measures
The Legislative Assembly of Santa Catarina (Alesc) is reviewing two new legislative proposals aimed at strengthening consumer rights in the state. Project of Law 662/2026, authored by Deputy Sérgio Guimarães, seeks to prohibit unjustified price increases for essential goods and services, such as food, medicine, and fuel, during periods of public emergency or calamity.
Simultaneously, Project of Law 666/2026, presented by Deputy Napoleão Bernardes, proposes the creation of a State Anti-Fraud Policy. This measure intends to combat financial and commercial fraud, specifically targeting digital and telephone scams like cloned e-commerce pages and altered payment slips. The proposal includes the establishment of a State Anti-Fraud Portal to centralize guidance and reports.
In a separate development regarding aviation, PROCON/SC met with airlines Latam, Azul, and Gol to coordinate the implementation of new passenger transport rules following Anac Resolution No. 813/2026. The meeting addressed consumer rights during flight delays and cancellations, with airlines agreeing to provide direct contact channels at Santa Catarina airports to facilitate communication with consumer protection authorities.
