Santa Catarina advances science and robotics initiatives
In Santa Catarina, Brazil, new initiatives are being launched to strengthen the science, technology, and innovation (CT&I) ecosystem. The State University of Santa Catarina (Udesc), in partnership with the Brazilian Society for the Progress of Science (SBPC), is hosting an event to present the document ‘Vozes da Ciência – O Brasil que Queremos’. This document contains 117 proposals across seven strategic axes designed to shape public policies and address sectoral challenges. The initiative also seeks to engage political candidates in discussions regarding scientific sovereignty and democracy.
Simultaneously, SENAI/SC is coordinating a project to integrate and strengthen an advanced robotics network in the state. Supported by the Santa Catarina Research and Innovation Support Foundation (Fapesc) with an investment of approximately R$ 5 million, the project aims to connect researchers, companies, and technology providers. A key focus of this effort is ‘Physical AI’, which integrates artificial intelligence with robotics and sensors to allow machines to interact with real-world environments. The goal is to boost industrial productivity, safety, and competitiveness through technologies such as humanoid robots, drones, and autonomous systems.
