Santa Catarina bridges face safety and traffic disruptions

The National Department of Infrastructure and Transportation (DNIT) declined to comment on two recent accidents on the Alfredo Ítalo Remor bridge on BR‑282 in Joaçaba, where two maintenance workers fell into the River do Peixe and a truck lost its brakes, prompting concerns about safety protocols during ongoing works slated to finish in August.

Separately, an unspecified incident on the Colombo Salles bridge in Florianópolis caused a partial closure on Friday, leading to kilometer‑long traffic queues on the island’s exit routes. Emergency vehicles responded, and traffic was restored around 12:15 p.m. after the blockage was cleared.
