Santa Catarina Court orders maintenance plan for critical bridges
The Court of Accounts of Santa Catarina (TCE) has intervened regarding the maintenance of the Colombo Salles and Pedro Ivo Campos bridges, which serve as critical links between Florianópolis Island and the mainland. In a unanimous decision, the TCE granted the State Infrastructure Secretariat (SIE) 60 days to present a permanent action plan and a schedule for the 2026 quinquennial inspection, under penalty of daily fines.
The court also imposed a fine of R$ 10.2 thousand on former secretary Jerry Comper for previous non-compliance. The decision highlights concerns over reactive management and the need for routine engineering maintenance to combat wear caused by salt spray and continuous use. While the State Infrastructure Secretariat has stated there are no structural issues with the pedestrian walkways, the TCE is pushing for proactive planning to ensure the safety of these vital transport corridors.
