Santa Catarina families launch aid drives after fire in Caçador and windstorm in Garuva
A house in Caçador, Santa Catarina, was destroyed by a large fire on 28 July 2026. The blaze, likely caused by an electrical short circuit, razed the home of Jucilene Bertolino Bernardes and her three children, including two with special needs. No one was injured, but the family lost all possessions. A local donation campaign was organized to collect clothing, food, diapers, furniture and appliances for the family’s recovery.
In Garuva, also in Santa Catarina, a severe windstorm on 29 July 2026 ripped the roof off an elderly resident’s house, leaving it largely demolished. The family posted a video on social media and set up a Pix‑based fundraising effort, while the municipal Defense Civil distributed tarps and assisted affected households. Both incidents prompted community-driven relief efforts to help the displaced families rebuild their lives.
