Santa Catarina hospitals receive major upgrades

In São Pedro de Alcântara, the historic Hospital Santa Teresa, originally built in the 1940s, completed a R$ 700,000 renovation funded by the state. The work replaced the old electrical and hydraulic systems, repaired roofs and walls, and fully refurbished Clinic Medical 2, adding 16 new beds, accessible bathrooms, wider doors and other human‑centred improvements.

In Florianópolis, the state’s Hospital Governador Celso Ramos is expanding its intensive‑care capacity. Approximately R$ 5 million is being spent to construct a new ICU wing that will raise the number of intensive‑care beds from 20 to 34. The project includes modern ventilators, electric beds, central air conditioning and the completion of medical gas, hemodialysis and electrical installations, aiming to meet rising demand during the winter respiratory‑illness season.
