Santa Catarina hospitals win national ICU award and expand intensive‑care capacity

Hospital Nereu Ramos in Florianópolis received the UTI Top Performer 2026 award, marking its third consecutive national recognition for high quality, safety and excellence in intensive‑care treatment. It is the only fully public hospital in Santa Catarina's state network to hold the certification among nearly 2,000 monitored Brazilian ICUs. The award highlights investments made by Governor Jorginho Mello and the dedication of the multidisciplinary team.

Meanwhile, Hospital Governador Celso Ramos is undergoing a R$5 million expansion to add 14 new ICU beds, increasing its capacity from 20 to 34. The construction includes modern ventilators, electric beds, central air‑conditioning and other specialized equipment, aiming to meet rising demand during the winter season and the surge in severe respiratory cases. The project reflects the state health department’s broader plan to strengthen intensive‑care services across Santa Catarina.
