Brazil and Portugal report series of major criminal convictions and arrests

Various judicial proceedings and criminal investigations are unfolding across Brazil and Portugal. In Portugal, an 18-year-old man has been detained in Seixal for the alleged sexual abuse of his nine-year-old sister.

In Brazil, several high-profile sentencing decisions have been reached. A man in Minas Novas was sentenced to 31 years for feminicide, while in Paraná, Éder da Silva received 47 years for the murder of his girlfriend. In Rio Grande do Sul, a couple faces trial for the deaths of a teenager and an infant, and a mother and stepfather were convicted for the torture and death of a two-year-old child.

Other notable cases include a man in Bahia sentenced to over 16 years for setting a woman on fire, and a former catechist in Santa Catarina sentenced to over 12 years for the sexual abuse of children. Additionally, in Jaguaruna, parents were ordered to pay R$ 100,000 in damages after being found responsible for the psychological violence and expulsion of their son due to his sexual orientation. In Florianópolis, a stepfather was sentenced to 44 years for the torture and murder of an autistic child.
