Santa Catarina nautical sector faces labor shortage amid growth
The nautical industry in Santa Catarina is experiencing significant growth driven by larger vessel construction and new infrastructure investments. However, this expansion has created a pressing need for professional training to meet the rising demand from shipyards, marinas, workshops, and service companies.
At the VI ACATMAR Technical Training Forum held in Florianópolis, industry experts discussed challenges regarding technology, maintenance, safety, innovation, and sustainability. The event, promoted by the Brazilian Nautical Association (ACATMAR) and Mundo Mar Consulting, saw a record 229 participants.
Leandro “Mané” Ferrari, president of ACATMAR, noted that labor shortages affect all segments of the sector, from industrial manufacturing to nautical tourism. He emphasized the necessity of fostering collaboration between companies, educational institutions, and the public sector to ensure a qualified workforce can sustain the industry's development.
