Santa Catarina police seize over one tonne of marijuana in weekend raids

During the weekend of 12‑14 May, the Santa Catarina Military Police carried out coordinated operations in several municipalities, confiscating roughly 1,047 kg of marijuana. The seizures took place in Florianópolis (≈29.8 kg), Itajaí (≈199 kg) and a nearby warehouse in Brusque (additional ≈189 kg), on the SC‑141 highway near Palma Sola (≈118.7 kg) and, finally, in Porto União where police found about 700 kg inside a vehicle.

Five people were arrested – three men aged 25, 27 and 31, and two women aged 22 and 32 – in the Itajaí operation, and a 40‑year‑old driver was detained after confessing to transporting the drugs on the Palma Sola haul. A .38‑calibre revolver was also seized. The suspect linked to the Porto União vehicle has not yet been identified.
