Chapecó showcases automotive heritage, honors karate champion and nears completion of $120 M autodrome
The exhibition “Entre a Memória e o Sonho: História da Velocidade em Chapecó” opens on 18 August at the Galeria Municipal de Arte Neocy Fin in Chapecó. It presents more than six decades of local motorsport history through photographs, documents, trophies and other artefacts, highlighting early races, the Automóvel Clube Chapecó, the Júnior Kart Club, the 1980 Brazilian Kart Championship won by Ayrton Senna and the sponsorship of Christian Fittipaldi by Chapecó Alimentos. The show also promotes future projects such as the Kartódromo Internacional and the Autódromo Internacional de Chapecó.
Chapecó’s karate team honoured technical coordinator Antonio Rodrigues for his 2013 Pan‑American title won in Argentina. The ceremony, held at Lounge Sicoob in Arena Condá, marked the 13th anniversary of the victory and presented Rodrigues with a large portrait of his podium moment.
The International Autodrome of Chapecó, a R$120 million project, has reached 80 % of construction. Built to FIA standards, the circuit uses Stone Mastic Asphalt – the same surface employed on Formula 1 tracks – and is slated to host categories such as Formula 4, Stock Car, Copa Truck and other national and international events later this year.
