Santa Catarina proposes legal defense support for public servants

The Attorney General's Office of Santa Catarina (PGE/SC) has proposed a partnership agreement with the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB/SC) to provide legal assistance to specific public servants. The initiative aims to sponsor the defense of professionals from the Secretariats of Public Security, Justice and Social Reintegration, and the Environmental Institute (IMA) in lawsuits arising from their official duties.

The proposal, conceived by Governor Jorginho Mello, was unanimously approved and is currently awaiting deliberation by the OAB/SC. According to State Attorney General Marcelo Mendes, the support is strictly limited to acts performed during the exercise of public functions. The agreement excludes any acts committed outside of official duties or those that conflict with the interests of the State. The project also establishes a clear distinction between the PGE/SC's role as a legal advisor to the Executive Power and the personal defense of these public agents.
