Santa Catarina strengthens anti‑elder abuse efforts during June Violeta

The Ministry of Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Catarina (MPSC) held an orientation meeting in Joaçaba on June 26, 2026, to reinforce protection of elderly people. The event, conducted at the Centre for the Elderly, gathered protection‑network representatives and seniors. NEAVIT coordinator prosecutor Márcia Denise Kandler Bittencourt emphasized legal guarantees such as priority service, respect, dignity and quality public services, and explained how to report abuse through Disque 100, public‑agency hotlines or directly to the MPSC. She highlighted that property‑related abuse – forcing an elder to sell assets, sign powers of attorney or hand over bank details – is a crime and must be reported, even without proof, with as much detail as possible.

In Mauá da Serra, the municipal Secretariats of the Elderly and Social Assistance concluded the June Violeta campaign with an inter‑municipal event together with Faxinal. The gathering focused on fostering integration, valuing seniors and reaffirming the commitment to prevent violence year‑round. Organisers reiterated the importance of reporting abuse via the free, anonymous Disque 100 service.

Both initiatives aim to raise awareness, encourage reporting and strengthen coordinated protective measures for Brazil’s ageing population.
