South America weather alert: Cyclone and cold front trigger severe storms

A combination of a cold front and an extratropical cyclone passing through Argentina is triggering severe weather across South America. In Brazil, the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has issued warnings for heavy rainfall, intense winds, and hail in the Southern and Central-West regions, including Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, and Mato Grosso do Sul.

In Rio Grande do Sul, the Civil Defense warns of potential wind gusts exceeding 100 km/h and heavy rainfall accumulations that could surpass 230 mm in northern areas. Santa Catarina faces similar risks, with rainfall expected to reach between 100 and 150 mm. In Mato Grosso do Sul, temperatures are expected to reach up to 41°C, accompanied by the risk of localized storms and hail.

In Paraguay, high temperatures between 31°C and 39°C are expected, with potential thunderstorms in the eastern region. Meanwhile, in São Paulo, the southern portion of the state is also under alert for instability and storms.
