Santa Comba Dão to open Estado Novo interpretive center

The Interpretive Center of the Estado Novo – Regime and Resistance (CIEN – RR) is scheduled to open on the 23rd in Vimieiro, within the municipality of Santa Comba Dão. The center will be located in the Escola Cantina Salazar, a 1940s building that served as a model school during the dictatorship.

According to Luís Nunes, vice-president of the Santa Comba Dão City Council, the facility aims to provide an objective historical analysis rather than acting as a museum dedicated to the dictator. The center intends to study both the Estado Novo regime and the resistance movements against it.

Under the scientific coordination of the Associação Ephemera, the center will host thematic exhibitions, debates, conferences, and academic discussions. The inaugural exhibition will focus on censorship within the press, literature, and music. Additionally, the site will feature a specialized thematic library to support researchers.
