Santa Cruz announces 40,000 sneakers for students

The government of Santa Cruz has announced the distribution of 40,000 pairs of Topper brand sneakers to students in the initial, primary, and special education levels. Part of the ‘EduActiva’ program, the initiative aims to promote physical activity, reduce sedentary lifestyles, and alleviate the economic burden on families.

Governor Claudio Vidal stated that the program is a result of public-private collaboration, involving various companies including those in the oil sector. Looking ahead, the government plans to expand the program in 2027 to include secondary school students, increasing the total distribution to 93,000 pairs of shoes twice a year.

Registration for the current distribution begins this Friday at all public primary schools, kindergartens, rural schools, and special education centers. The process is expected to take place simultaneously across the province for one week.

The Provincial Council of Education has issued a formal clarification to debunk false information circulating on social media. Officials confirmed that the sneakers will not feature any provincial government logos, stamps, or institutional markings, ensuring a standard design to avoid stigmatization.
