Santa Cruz appoints Zé Ricardo as head coach for 2027 season
Santa Cruz has officially announced the hiring of Zé Ricardo as its new head coach for the 2027 season. The 55-year-old manager arrives to lead the Pernambuco-based club during its return to the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B, a competition the team has not participated in since 2017.
Ricardo brings extensive experience from major Brazilian clubs, including Flamengo, Vasco, Botafogo, Internacional, and Cruzeiro. His recent professional experience includes a stint with Sporting Cristal in Peru. The club intends to use his early arrival to optimize the assembly of the new squad ahead of the 2027 Campeonato Pernambucano, which is scheduled to begin in January.
Pre-season training is expected to commence on December 6, likely at the Retrô Training Center in Camaragibe. Ricardo succeeds Cristian de Souza, who departed the club following the team's recent promotion.
