Santa Cruz approves new Bs 3.50 urban transport fare
In Santa Cruz de la Sierra, a new transitional fare of Bs 3.50 for adult urban transport passengers has been approved by the Municipal Council. The measure, supported by technical reports, includes preferential rates: Bs 1 for university and high school students, seniors, and people with disabilities, and Bs 0.50 for primary school students.
Following the announcement, transport leaders from the Federation of Transportistas 16 de Noviembre suspended a planned 48-hour strike originally scheduled for October 5 and 6. While some lines have already begun implementing the new rate, others continue to charge the previous amount. The transport sector remains in a state of emergency and has requested one week for the national government to address demands regarding diesel supplies.
The implementation of this fare is strictly conditional. Mayor Carlos Mamén Saavedra emphasized that the continuity of the rate depends on meeting specific operational and service quality standards. If a transport strike occurs, the law will be annulled. Planned improvements include the installation of smart traffic lights at over 50 intersections and the construction of new bus stops starting next year.
