Santa Cruz de Bezana mayor recovers from serious traffic accident

Carmen Pérez, the mayor of Santa Cruz de Bezana, is continuing her recovery at home following a serious traffic accident on the A-67 highway. The accident, which occurred on August 10, resulted in a broken and displaced cervical vertebra.

Pérez underwent surgery at the Hospital Universitario Marqués de Valdecilla, which municipal sources described as having proceeded “favorablemente”. Due to the scale of the operation, officials noted that her recovery process will be slow. While she undergoes rehabilitation, Manuela Bolado (Vox) is serving as the acting mayor.

The accident occurred when the vehicle Pérez was traveling in, returning from a meeting in Santander, stalled on the highway and was struck from behind by a delivery van. Other occupants, including the head of the Bezana Police and a municipal technician, sustained various contusions.
