Santa Cruz de la Sierra approves increase in urban transport fares

The Municipal Council of Santa Cruz de la Sierra has approved a new fare structure for urban public transport. The adult fare will increase from Bs 3 to Bs 3.50, while rates for other groups remain unchanged.

Under the new scale, students, university students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities will continue to pay Bs 1, while minors and primary school students will pay Bs 0.50. The council decided against implementing a specific night fare, despite previous requests from transport sectors.

The decision follows pressure from transport workers who had previously staged protests and strikes to demand a fare update. The approved measure will now be sent to the Municipal Executive for promulgation.

In addition to the price adjustment, the council has mandated service improvements. Operators have 30 days to repair vehicle components such as seats, floors, and windows. Municipal controls to verify these improvements and a 60-day window for unit registration are scheduled to begin in November.
