Santa Cruz de la Sierra investigations target Johnny Fernández and son

Investigations into former Santa Cruz de la Sierra mayor Johnny Fernández continue as local officials call for the recovery of municipal funds. Councilwoman Luisa Nayar has urged authorities to pursue a full sentence to ensure the reparation of economic damages to the municipality. Nayar expressed concerns regarding potential delays in justice and emphasized the need to safeguard assets, noting reports of significant sums of cash found during recent operations.

In a related development, Max Jhonny Fernández Rea, the 23-year-old son of the former mayor, has been granted house arrest with a bail of 25,000 Bolivianos and a domestic travel ban. He faces charges of obstruction and illicit enrichment following an operation at Fundamax facilities. During the raid, authorities reportedly discovered over $467,000 in cash. While the defendant provided documentation claiming the funds originated from a real estate transfer, prosecutors have questioned the logical origin of such a large sum in multiple currencies.
