Santa Cruz de la Sierra schools move to remote learning amid transport strike threat

The Departmental Directorate of Education of Santa Cruz has announced that schools in the capital city will transition to remote learning this Monday. Nelson Nery Alcocer Coca, the departmental director, stated the measure is a preventive action to ensure student safety and mobility.

The decision follows an announcement by the urban public transport sector to hold a strike on September 28. The protest is a response to the elimination of the diesel subsidy, which has caused the price of the fuel to rise to 17.95 Bolivianos per liter. The directive applies to district directors in Santa Cruz 1, 2, 3, and the Plan 3000 area.

While authorities in Santa Cruz de la Sierra and the national government engage in dialogue with transport representatives to prevent the strike, local educational authorities have been instructed to evaluate their specific municipal contexts to ensure the 210-day school calendar is maintained without risking student safety.
